Another stage extremely rich in points of interest, with exceptional views that accompany the entire first part and historical and cultural suggestions during the second.

From Baragazza we set off in the direction of Castiglione dei Pepoli, skirting Poggio Castello and descending towards the Setta river.

The ascent offers passage to Ca' di Landino, a location of great historical significance, linked to the construction of the Bologna-Florence direct railway.

Once you reach Castiglione dei Pepoli, take the scenic ridge that leads to Monte Catarelto, a place as beautiful from a scenic point of view as it is historically important in relation to the Second World War.

Lagaro, with its ancient history, and Ripoli, with the charming village of Serrucce, prepare for the finale at the Sanctuary of Santa Maria della Serra.

Lagaro

A hamlet in the municipality of Castiglione dei Pepoli, at approximately 400 meters above sea level, Lagaro lies near the confluence of the Setta and Brasimone rivers. Known since ancient times, its name derives from a pre-Latin term meaning "field," the same root as the German word lager. Traces of Celtic and Etruscan settlements predate the arrival of the Romans and, later, the Lombard invasions. In the Middle Ages, it belonged to the Alberti Counts of Prato, then passed to Bologna and subsequently to the Papal States. The church of Santa Maria Assunta, with its co-patron saint, San Mamante, has been an independent parish since 1591; the bell tower was rebuilt in 1945. The community played a central role in the construction of the Trans-Apennine railway tunnel and the Piane hydroelectric plant.
